I am a Dawson College Student in Social Science and am taking an advanced history class. The main purpose of the class is to construct a Historical Walking Tour of a part of the city of Montreal and make it interesting.
I chose to focus on Montreal's neighbourhood of Little Italy because I always seem to pass through St-Laurent Boulevard in Little Italy, but have never asked myself before what is hiding beyond St-Laurent? It seems like the general public only gets a sense of Little Italy being what you see on the main boulevard. I chose to look past that, and found that there are many more interesting historical sites beyond St-Laurent. I wanted to share with my class what I found and maybe interest them to take this tour and learn more about Montreal's Italian Community.
I went to Little Italy myself to take pictures for the project. I was only going to take pictures from the outside, but saw that the doors of the Casa d'Italia were open. As I walked in I met its general director, Pasquale Iacobacci. He allowed me to take pictures inside, which was very kind of him. He also handed me a pamphlet which had more information on Italian immigration and the Casa d'Italia itself.
