Jean-Talon Market
7070 Henri-Julien Avenue
Entrance to the market
Built in 1933 on the site of the Irish Lacrosse Field "The Shamrock", the market original name was the Marché-du-Nord (The Northern Market). The market would sell fresh produce and fresh meats for all. Italians would go there to buy their produce, as well as live chicken that they would pluck themselves at home (Micheletti, 1999). The site was originally going to become a bus station, which explains why there are large concrete platforms with shelters over them, on the side of the market (Images Montréal, 2011).
Through the years, many expansions have been done to the market and in 2004, a permanent section for the winter was created with an underground parking lot (Images Montréal, 2011). Today, one can find various products and shops within the market, such as a culinary cookbook shop, international foods, maple syrup products, flower shops and a kitchen appliance store (See pictures below).
